On 11 March 2013, at the Headquarters of Institute of International Relations and Economic Cooperation, was held the public seance to present the candidature for european prize on tourism: BEST TOURIST DESTINATION FOR 2013.

As a public information: Romania is holding the Presidency of World Tourist Organization and of International Bureau of Exhibition  being the most important  european voice in the field of tourism for the next decade.

In the public séance Professor dr. Anton Caragea, Director of Institute of International Relations and Economic Cooperation   had outlined the main criteria for evaluation: cultural and historical legacy, accessible visa and entry procedures for tourist`s, facilities for tourism industry, efforts to preserve historical legacy and conserve natural reservation`s and the importance of international recognition for the country`s economy.

The final eight candidature`s where outlined ( Congo, Niger, Madagascar, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos,Cuba)    and Professor Dr. Anton Caragea had emphasized the credentials of Lao Democratic Peoples Republic candidature: rapid growing economy, developed touristic infrastructure,  safety and security, unmatched cultural and historical patrimony in South Eastern Asia and a remarkable conservationist policy of natural values.

„Based on all this aspects, I think that Romania should offer support to Lao Democratic Peoples Republic candidature  as the BEST TOURIST DESTINATION„ concluded his allocution Professor dr. Anton Caragea.

In the final vote, in unanimity, the delegates decided to endorse Lao candidature and to entrust to Professor dr. Anton Caragea the mandate to vote in European Tourism spring session in favor of Lao candidature.

„Today`s decision is a historical one, as is drawing closer Romania and the  economic and tourist market of South-East Asia, is re-connecting the traditional partners: Romania and Lao and is creating a new economic and political direction of activity for our diplomacy „ stated professor dr. Anton Caragea to the mass media present at the public séance.
